Rain hits hard

Drops gather and chase each other playfully in the gutter

Then disappear like smoke over the rise

The harder rain hits the ground running

It fills puddles and eddies in smooth heavy strides

Its rhythm steady and athletic broken only by the thunder applauding  its course

Insistent, it pools around tree trunks, skipping with joy—

This is its moment to tumble and jump out of a darkened sky

This is its moment to cover cars and streets in its path and make us run for cover in its wake
