There are words that are aspirational by design. Expectation has that feeling of hopefulness. Like Dickinson’s “thing with feathers” that is undaunted by difficulties.
I know, in my heart of hearts, that we can expect doom and gloom too. There is an element of suspense in expectation, but I prefer to see it as a half-full concept, like Great Expectations. The presumption is that we can anticipate success.
The hope is that all will be well.
